Saturday afternoon, June 9, was the date of the inaugural Jim Johnston Memorial Convoy. The OOIDA touring tractor-trailer, the Spirit of the American Trucker, driven by Jon Osburn, led 26 trucks on a 10-mile route through Harmony, Ohio, around to I-70 West, and back to the Clark County Fairgrounds.
The convoy occurred at the first Buckeye Invitational Truck Show, described as “family oriented with activities for young and old, with some of the best working class/show trucks in attendance and a full lineup of talented musical guests.”
Each participant in the convoy made a $50.00 donation to TruckersFinalMile.org, a charity that will assist in the immediate travel, lodging, and ground transportation needs of truck drivers and their immediate families. Additionally, in the event of loss of drivers life, Truckers Final Mile will pay the transportation of his/her remains home.
All T-shirt sale proceeds from the show also went directly to the charity. Founder Robert Palm received an award for his dedication and tireless efforts to help trucking families in need.
Overall, the event raised $4,200 for a very worthy cause.
