Josh Aldrich, the founder of Fur the Haul of it, wants other drivers to help deliver rescue animals to their ‘furever’ homes.
The Cranbrook trucker voluntarily transports rescue animals to their future foster or forever homes all across British Columbia and needs more volunteer drivers to join him.
Aldrich has had baby elk, deer, skunks, raptors and even a marmot sit shotgun in his truck.
Aldrich said he doesn’t like the idea of rescue animals going into the hold of an airplane and would rather take them in his truck.
Aldrich transports wild animals, as well as rescue dogs and cats, around B.C., and has other drivers who help with transportation to Alberta, but he is looking for drivers who can make trips to Saskatchewan and the United States.
Along with a pal for the open road, truckers who help are provided with critter food and animal carriers.
Aldrich also loves to adopt some of the animals himself.
“My house is pretty much a zoo,” said Aldrich. “I do a lot of rescues, but I am not very good at the re-homing part, I guess.”
As much as Aldrich loves adopting the animals himself, he says he hates to miss the moment when a pet is united with its new family.
Aldrich said he loves “watching their faces light up” and seeing how excited both the people and animals get when it arrives at its ‘furever’ home.
